Why Costa Rica?

Iglesia Luterana CostarricenseHoly Trinity Lutheran Church

On June 22, 16 members of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (HTLC), Charlotte will embark on a trip to visit the Lutheran Church of Costa Rica (Iglesia Luterana Costarricense, or ILCO). We're calling it a mission trip, but we are NOT doing a work project! What kind of mission trip is THAT, you say? Well, it's more a reverse mission trip. We are traveling to Costa Rica trusting that we will be blessed by the church and people there. We plan to walk with our Costa Rican friends, to learn from them, and to accompany them (and them, us) as they go about spreading the message of Jesus' love.

The Lutheran Church in Costa Rica does a lot of work in the area of human rights--with indigenous people, migrants from Nicaragua, and the LGBTQ+ community. While we are there, we plan to walk with them in their Pride parade, visit a day care that they support, travel to an indigenous community and participate in an artisan workshop, worship with them, and allow them to show us their beautiful country.

We will update this blog throughout the week as we are able (depending on WiFi access) and we ask that you follow along and please hold us in prayer.

Stay tuned!
